ING Bank
Exploring the endless boundaries of creativity in user experience design by redesigning one of the best mobile banking apps in Poland.

The user experience design process never stops.
Overview
The organization of Mobile Trends Awards recognized the Moje ING app as one of the best mobile banking apps in Poland in both 2022 and 2024. This prestigious award was given for providing quick and highly secure access to users’ bank accounts, as well as offering many additional non-financial features that help users with their everyday tasks.
Challenge
Unfortunately, despite these significant functional advantages, the app also has some major drawbacks. The most notable include a non-intuitive user flow, a cluttered layout with too many distracting elements, and a monotonous, unengaging interface. As a user and fan of the Moje ING app, I decided to improve its underdeveloped areas.
Solution
Without interfering with the award-winning functional and technical aspects of the app, I am introducing significant changes to the user experience and user interface areas. The newly designed solutions revolutionize the app’s appearance and the way users interact with it, while maintaining the most recognizable elements of ING’s visual identity.

Research
To validate my assumptions about the drawbacks of the Moje ING app, I conducted user interviews with a group of 8 participants who use the app daily. This approach helped me discover user behavior patterns and identify related pain points or potential needs. The findings presented below served as the foundation for the ideation and redesign process.
Order
6 out of 8 participants felt overwhelmed and confused by the cluttered screen layouts.
Focus
6 out of 8 participants appreciated the strong orange accent highlighting important elements.
Vibe
4 out of 8 participants found the existing interface unfriendly and visually unappealing.
Clarity
4 out of 8 participants were unsure about what action they should take to reach the desired feature.
Essential screens
The key aspect in determining the composition of the screens was to create a clear visual hierarchy among the content elements, allowing for quick and intuitive use of the app’s functionalities. The resulting layout is illustrated below on screens crucial to the user flow: the welcome screen, home screen, bank transfer order, and transaction history screen.
All features in a clean, intuitive and enjoyable design.

Usability study
The redesigned solutions were evaluated through usability testing and user interviews with a group of 8 participants, who were tasked to select a specific account, review transaction history, and order a bank transfer. The study focused on comparing task completion between the existing and redesigned versions of the app, which resulted in the following insights:
All participants found the redesigned screen layouts clearer, more intuitive, and easier to scan.
All participants described the redesigned interface as more engaging and visually appealing.
80% of participants improved their completion time for key tasks in the redesigned app.
60% of participants reached the desired features more easily in the redesigned app.
Key visual
ING Bank has a strong visual identity that has been building brand recognition and trust among its users for years. While respecting the effective and well-established solutions, I focused my design work on the thoughtful use of existing visual identity elements: the fresh orange color, the neutral and friendly ING Me typeface, and the distinctive lion logo.
